A Ugandan man, 57-year-old Basil Enatu who has worked in the mortuary for over 32 years, sees nothing wrong with working in a mortuary and loves his job.
Enatu, who has been working at the Soroti Regional Referral Hospital, for over three decades, has narrated the motivation and challenges of his job.
Sharing his experience with Uganda’s Daily Monitor, he said “at the time when I used to drink local brew, people would not want to share a drinking straw or calabash with me, or a scenario where a vendor had to wash the tube I used for taking brew using hot water. People do not want to share a pot or shake hands with me.”
He added, “I love working on bodies because they do not complain, do not fight, are humble and are not trouble causers. After all, rich and poor, all are buried the same way by being lowered into the grave.”
