Breaking-Several people injured as earthquake hit Peru

An 8.0 magnitude earthquake struck northern Peru on Sunday morning, injuring at least five people, the strongest to hit the country in 12 years.

The earthquake’s epicenter which was at an approximate depth of 115km was felt as far as Lima, Peru; Quito, Ecuador and Caracas, Venezuela.

The hardest hit city is Yurimaguas, located in the Peruvian Amazon and Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra with top government officials are coordinating activities to evaluate damages to homes, bridges and roadways.

Seven people were also injured in Ecuador, following the earthquake, with landslides reported in various parts of the country, though with no infrastructure damage.
